    area needed per chicken?

    I agree with Seachick- per hen- 4sqft in hen house and 10sqft in run. I have 8.5 sq ft in the run for each of my hens and that seems too little.

    I just recieved my 2nd egg and they both seem to be in good shape (nice "normal" shells). I thought that you should start feeding them oyster shells once they start to lay. Do I still need to do this, or do I do that only if the shells are weak?

    Coop windows?

    Most of it was built with stuff I had left over from other projects. The windows- all 4- cost $40 total. The windows also swing open. I found the windows then designed the coop around them. I built the coop around the windows.

    go to a salvage yard for old windows- you can get them very cheap! Thats what I did.
