One of our hens is limping and we noticed one of her nails is black. Could that be an injury or a fungus of some kind? Thank you.
Also, Is this the time of year when laying either stops or slows down? Do we need to put a light in the coop or should we just let them be for the winter months...
thank you - that makes sense. and you didn't have a problem with them "eating the broken egg" and becoming accustomed to the taste? that was my biggest fear. will be a little more patient and if it continues will also try the "hammock" approach - have to get creative with that one :)

Thank you both so much for your input. I like the idea of the feed bags as I'm an "old lady" too and the poop board puts my back out easily. The young'un that I'm doing this with - doesn't bother her at all, but she can't always get out there to do the cleaning.
