    Sorry to hear about your chook. I had a silkie die last week too. I haven't had chooks long so it was sad.

    Is a rooster's crow really obvious?

    My little bantam is 18 weeks old and hasn't crowed. I have tried to sneak up to the hen house and listen but have only heard low throaty clucks, is he a she? This chook is very easy going and friendly. They are free range.

    I also think the grey one is boy and the other two girls. What do you mean by hatchery quality? I got the eggs from a friend who breeds silkies and pekin bantams. My serrogate pekin hatched these eggs.

    Any thoughts on coloring or gender? I know silkies are tough to know on gender but any guesses would be fun. One of the three is much larger, in body and legs. These three were hatched on the same day.

    Hi, I have heard that shredded paper is not a good material to use, it gets sloppy if wet and then hard like cement when it dries making it hard to clean up. I have used sugar cane mulch once or twice. I didn't like it because it went sort of musty moldy quickly. I know this is bad for chook...
