BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I only have these two on my phone. The first is before the chicks arrived. I ended up setting the light right on top of the box to get it warm enough. When they got bigger I put a fence around it to keep them in. Now, at 5 weeks, the box with an extension because they are so big, is outside in a...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

What is the deal on this chick's wing feathers? Actually I have two like this and the third looks normal. They are Black Copper Marans from eggs I hatched Feb 13, so 4-5 weeks old .

    Questions about my chicks

I was hoping that was what they are but when I looked at splash chicks online they were born white. You are sure about this? I hope so! Time will tell I guess. Any idea about the weird black ones? What is the deal with their wings?

    Questions about my chicks

I bought a pair of Black Copper Marans and when I did she gave me some eggs to hatch. Three were BCM and the others were Blue Copper Marans I think. They hatched as three dark gray and two light gray. The pictures are of some of them after hatching and today. Are both shades of gray Blue...

    Rebel teenagers

Let me just say my first flock of hens from last summer were such good girls. 10 total, golden comet, black rock, and speckled Sussex were tame and friendly. We got 8 to 10 eggs every day. They were free to roam the farm but came back to the coop every night. But, sadly we have a predator...

American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

My granddaughter went with me today when I took the geese to swim. She had to go swimming too of course. She thought it was hilarious to put leaves on their back. Good times. Edited by staff

American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

This my first time with geese. They are so adorable and sweet I have to say the chicks we got this year aren't as tame as they could be. We spent all our bird holding time with the geese! Covering our chests with a towel for protection from the inevitable poop, we let them sleep on us. They...

What kind of geese are these?

It's a creek. We walk them down there almost every day, hoping/assuming they will learn to go there themselves when they get older. It really isn't very deep, just a few areas where they can actually swim.

What kind of geese are these?

So as I was posting this an ad for Metzer Farms came up on the right. I looked there and found that Buff is a breed, not just a color. I believe that is what I have lol. But aren't you glad you got to see them!

What kind of geese are these?

These are my sweet babies, about 7 weeks old here. When I picked up the little yellow fluff balls, the feed store lady just said they were 'buff'. I never thought about breed. She also tried to give me a male and a female. When should I be able to tell is this is so?

    Strictly Homebodies

My babies started to venture out after about four days. When they were by the house I opened their little pen every day and the wandered around the yard. But when I took them to the barn and their coop they were more timid, as if they had never been outside. Today we took the geese down there...

    Can geese eat chicken feed?

I have just moved my huge 7 week old geese to the barn today. I still have some of the flock raiser but would like to transition them to the layer feed I give the chickens. http://www.countrysideorganics.com/product.php?productid=135&cat=0&page=1&featured They do free range. Anyone know if this...

    Mystery "Rare Breed' Chicks

Thanks!! I didn't even consider the Blue Sumatra in the catalog. The photo doesn't really look like her, but the description says they can be splash as well.
