American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

Pics

The "little" Toulouse that are almost 5 weeks are almost as tall as Martha. Martha and Mary are almost 10 weeks old. Boris has to have his head in the picture. I thought the buff girls were getting big. Then I noticed how the Toulouse goslings are close to Martha's height. Martha has shorter legs and neck in comparison to Mary. Really starting to wonder if I have a Marvin and Martha. Time will tell. Martha's legs really look short since her lobes are rather large, especially since Mary has none.

Martha has taken the role of mother with the Toulouse since they were 2 days old. She will be a good mother some day. Boris and Mary always like to block me from Martha and the little goslings. Cute.

Maybe next year I will have goslings that are hatched here.
They sure are pretty.

My granddaughter went with me today when I took the geese to swim. She had to go swimming too of course. She thought it was hilarious to put leaves on their back. Good times.

I've had American geese for four years now and have enjoyed them immensely. I initially bought two Blue and two Silver (Lav Ice) goslings from Holderreads, then added an adult pair of Blue breeders from them. I also added some Buff goslings from both Ideal and Metzer. My geese are desert geese. It was 100 degrees today so I filled up their "desert ponds" earlier than usual. They played in the water all day to stay cool. Here are a few photos of the flock:

Howdy neighbor! Buffs and Poms, eh. And noisy Chinese, too. LOL. Love 'em all. My flock is now a trio--a Buff (or Cream) gander, Blue goose, and a Buff goose. Making room for the laying hens on the 2/3rds of an acre. They are in the brooders now. Keep cool today--another 100 on the way.

Darn the heat! I bet you I find some more eggs today, too. I just got back from the Boeing post office where I picked up two beautiful American Buff goslings from Aurora Springs. Very affectionate and mischievous kids. My son and I are smitten

I received an Embden gosling in exchange for a drake with a friend of mine. Boris has adopted 2 different groups of goslings this year. One of the oldest goslings at the age of 5 weeks(now 10 weeks) acts as a mother to the 5 week old goslings who were a few days old when I got them. This was great. One big happy family. Except I finally got around to picking up the Embden(5 weeks old) and the goslings don't want it near them. I had to quarantine it first and now the other goslings want nothing to do with it. My motherly gosling Martha is trying to protect her brood while they try to chase it away. During the day I release it with the geese and at night I put it with the ducklings.

Oh well it will take some time. My 3 Toulouse are huge compared to the little Embden.

I guess my luck ran out.

Boris wants to adopt it but the goslings are up in arms over it.
