I have only hatched chicks 2 times and i always used a broody hen but I offered some fertile duck hatching eggs to and ffa program as a hatching project and want to help get the best hatch rate possible but I know absolutely nothing besides ducks taking 28 to hatch and not getting the eggs cold...
My ee hen seemed fine but today i opened the coop to check for eggs and saw her in the nesting boxes with a swollen vent and blood and yellow goo on her tail feathers it i looked it up and it looked like vent gleet but she has labored breathing and clear discharge from her mouth
DOES ANYONE...
I noticed my poor Peggy had a bit of a limp and did some research to what it could be and I think it is bumble foot it is warm to the touch

Thankfully all my neighbors are pretty spaced out and the only close one has had ducks chickens and turkeys of his own we have given him eggs before and he never seems to mind when one of ours pay a visit
I was planning to order ducklings and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with these breeds and has any cautions for me to keep in mind or other suggestions on breeds to add (breeds that lay colorful eggs would be great)
I had looked into metzer but when I said something to a friend who had ducks she said that her order had arrived with dead and sick ducklings and even though most of what i had heard was good im still hesitant
I am ordering ducklings and I am wanting to go with purely poultry but figured I would ask if anyone had any bad experiences with them
This is what i plan to order

From what I have read they usually lay eggs between 5 and 6am I personally prefer to keep them in a bit longer than that just in case (until around 7am) I would recommend keeping them locked up at night and letting them out sometime after 6 so the eggs will be in their house or pen
