Ideas for inexpensive bigger brooder needed, please!

Ive used an indoor rabbit cage for the first time with my ducklings this year. I had 10 ducklings (5 runners and 5 Shetlands) in it for 3 weeks before they outgrew it. It was the middle sized cage approx. 1 meter by 1/2 meter in size. It worked well as it had the solid plastic base to contain...

    Incubating humidity and temperatures

I agree. I'm currently incubating my first ever Muscovy eggs and have the humidity set at 25% which is giving me an accurate internal humidity of 25-30% and the weight of my eggs and air sac development is exactly where it should be so far. I'm on day 17 today so fingers crossed!

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Are these chicken eggs? If so, it could be that the chick is now nearing the time to hatch and so movement is slowing down. There are still veins so this is a good sign that the chick remains alive inside. I'm not sure if it will be able to position itself correctly to hatch with the air sac...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

How well were the eggs packaged? Has your temperature stayed constant throughout incubation so far (temp fluctuations seem to be a big reason for bloodrings forming)? I wonder if your egg seller sold you eggs that were older than they led you to believe? Perhaps they were mishandled before you...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

Mmmm. I will be interesting to see how these eggs develop... I have to say I've never had an embryo attach in the albumin either. I think it's worth carrying on with the hatch though, things may sort themselves out later on? I have had air sacs slowly move back up to the fat end over the course...

Malpositioned embryo and air cell help

I incubate all my eggs in an upright position, pointy end down, right up until the 1st internal pip. This is because all my eggs are shipped and air cells are often 'loose' and at risk of settling in the wrong position. My incubator is an rcom 20, so I have egg boxes that I sit the eggs in to...

    Is my duck okay?

Change to an unmedicated growers feed straight away and keep him on this until 20 weeks old. This will give him the higher level of protein he needs to grow while he's young. Never give ducks a medicated feed. Medicated feeds are poisonous to ducks as they eat too much at once (chicks are not as...
