I've been experiencing this with a couple of my silkie chicks. One passed away and the other is sleepy, weak legs, will sleep in your hands, etc. I know your post is old, but did your chick survive? Did you learn anything more about this condition in Silkies? Thank you!
We had a 5 day old Silkie chick that started out strong and active, but then went downhill in the last 2-3 days of it's life. The chick got sleepier and sleepier. At first we just assumed it was tired from growing and we fondly named it Briar (as in Sleeping Beauty, Briar Rose). The last 1.5...
Thank you for pointing that out. I saw B2, but my brain said B12 :D S/he is still doing well. The belly button area looks good and she's drinking magic water, from a syringe, better and better each day. The clicky breathing has stopped and she's chirping louder and finding her lungs. She's...
She's a little trooper...she's made it through her 2nd night 😊. I will check on the b12 and if there isn't any, I'll get some. Thank you for the link, I'll check it out now 😊
We had a hatching EE chick last evening that looked like it was drowning as it was trying to unzip. Apparently, the humidity was too high (incubator not reading accurately) and it was blowing bubbles from its mouth, so we decided to assist. This was the last egg and figured it wouldn't survive...
They are adorable! Sorry your hatch rate wasn't as good as you hoped...neither is ours 😔. We started out with 76 eggs and only have 6 babies so far. We had 21 Ayams and only 3 hatched. We candled them and don't see any movement. We don't know what happened. They seemed to die around day...
Yes...several more. We are waiting on 18 more Ayams, 4-5 Silkies (lost one since last posting 😔), and 14 Easter Eggers. Out of all those, only one has pipped. I don't think our overall hatch rate is going to be great 😔
With assistance it did hatch out. It was weak and we were told by an old egg hatcher in our area to give warm milk to help it get strength. We did that and it seems to be doing okay. It's pretty wobbly when it walks, but that may be normal. We had to assist with a silkie just now. It seems to be...
I don't have any on hand, but I think a run to the feed store is a must tomorrow for a few emergency supplies. It's doing good, I think. Still wobbly, but we'll reassess tomorrow and see if it makes gains in strength. Thank you!
Baby Ayam #3 hatched, but had to be assisted due to the membrane drying out and turning dark quickly. It seemed weak so I was advised to give it warm milk, which I did every 30 mins for about 2-3 hours. It seemed to rally, but it's quite unsteady and keeps falling backwards on its back. It...
We have an Ayam egg pipped and the membrane is getting dark. We put a small swipe of coconut oil on it and raised the humidity. The chick is chirping. Should we do anything else or wait and see?
A little over 24 hours ago, our first Ayam chick hatched and then almost 24 hours after that, our #2 hatched. We have #1 in the brooder because s/he seemed distressed after 24 hours and for whatever reason, the 21 eggs are hatching far apart from each other. Anyway, we bumped up the humidity...
