Silkie hen completely stopped egg production after brief broodiness.

Same thing happened to my Silkie the first time she went broody. Broke her out of it and in almost a month she began to lay again. I don’t have a lot of experience with chickens so I can’t tell you if this is a beginner broody hen thing or what the science behind it is. My guess is in about the...

How do I introduce 2 month old chicks to the older chickens?

Oh that sounds great because since 2 weeks old I’ve had them in a cage inside of the coop.

How do I introduce 2 month old chicks to the older chickens?

In that case I’ll have to wait until 3-4 months right?

How do I introduce 2 month old chicks to the older chickens?

So would you recommend just letting the chickens peck the chicks to establish the new pecking order?

How do I introduce 2 month old chicks to the older chickens?

I have 4 chicks that just recently turned 2 months old and I want to introduce them to the main flock but don’t know how or if I should. There currently is a 2 1/2 month old chick with the main flock but that’s because it was a broody hen’s adopted chick and had protection until it reached...

    Broody silkie partially covering eggs.

Well I really don’t have a choice but to trust her so I’ll just do that. Thank you for your advice.

    Broody silkie partially covering eggs.

I just checked now that they’re all sleeping and I think there’s a bigger problem. 2 of her eggs were not under her while she slept. They were still warm so I slipped them under her but does this mean she’d just sleep with the eggs hanging out and let them die?

    Broody silkie partially covering eggs.

I love the way she looks with that Afro but I was seriously debating whether or not to cut it or tie it into a bun.😂

    Broody silkie partially covering eggs.

My silkie went broody 2-3 months ago but never actually had fertile eggs to hatch our since I took them all before she went broody. So after 21 days I took the opportunity to get chicks and let her adopt them. It went great, she was a great and protective mother but now that her chick is 2...

Easter ever not growing as fast as Welshmen and olive egged chicks.

A month ago I introduced an Easter egged and Rhode Island Red chick to my broody silkie hen to see if she would adopt them. The Rhode Island Red was from the beginning very inactive and tired compared the the extremely energetic Easter ever and 2 days later the those island red died. 2 weeks...

    Chicken trading

These are very good ideas, I’m going to think on whether I want to take the risk or do as you’ve said.

    Chicken trading

I am expecting a shipment of 5 welsummer pullets around the 4th of April. I was wondering if there is any place where I could trade chickens for another breed or for a discount around Chicago? I really love the egg color welsummers lay but I also would love to have a variety of colors so that is...
