Good information over all. The idea of a cross sounds workable. Should I be going to a farm swap meet (we have them here periodically) to find source birds/breeds to raise squab from or should I go to a breeder? Are there 'traditional' pigeon breeds considered best for squab here in the US or...
Finally made connection with a farmer on the edge of town who raises rabbits, chickens and pigeons for competition. He has little problem with Asian buyers of squab who purchase his 'culls'. If I can set up decent housing for the pigeons in my city garage, he has connections to a local runt...

That is a recipe I could do. I just found another reference to squab pastilla on a blog, Pan-Roasted Breast of Squab with Swiss Chard, Sautéed Duck Foie Gras, and Oven-Dried Black Figs. Yipes! -imagine having to have your squab iced and air freighted in because there are no local...

Is there a book of recipes for...
Thank you all for such a neat welcome. It is much appreciated. Who knows... maybe in a year or less I'll have gorilla chickens... guerilla? How about secretly pastured urban pigeons?

I'm wondering has anyone actually tried squab at the dinner table in the past month? My mother use to sing the praises of squab. We never tried it though. Now though I'm wondering if this could be my 'city chicken'.
I only recently found out it actually had a texture. Whenever I...
I grew up on a farm, we had chickens we bought at the local feedstore, we raised them for meat and eggs for the table. In 2000 I encouraged friends to try to hatch their chickens and we learned a lot.
I live in the city at present and have no chickens or other poultry, but am thinking about it...
