My hens discovered the foil covered insulation in their coop and just about cleaned it out in a day. They seem perfectly fine. I am worried about the eggs though. Would they be safe to eat? Thanks in advance!
I have approx 20 1 yr old hens that I thought were molting through the winter, seeing as that they were were completely bald backed. A neighbor who is an oldtimer said that the particularly bald ones were "getting the roosters attention" and that's why they were bald. Any advice? It has been...
Do the blonde EEs end up being speckled or do they typically remain solid? I have only raised chipmunk EEs before. They all ended up black and gold and lay blue and green eggs. We adopted an adult EE that was solid white. She lays pink eggs. She's a real beauty.
I think my surprise is the picture in my 2nd "Please ID" post this morning. I think it is an EE roo. It is much larger and more aggressive than the others all of a sudden. Because of the blonde buxom appearance, we had named her Dolly (Parton). Guess we may have to work on a new name now!
The 2nd picture I am posting is of the biggest and blondest of the EEs. It is becoming a little aggressive. Wondering if this was the rare freebie and it is a roo. Too bad we already named it Dolly Parton!
Hi everyone,
I ordered 10 EEs, 10 Buff Orpingtons, and 5 Brown Leghorns from McMurray 2 weeks ago. I thought they had miscounted the Buffs b/c I had 13 of them and only 8 EEs (they all look like chipmunks). Now, I think maybe that some of the chicks that look like Buffs are indeed EEs. Their...
I posted the other day that one of my EE chicks was "hiccuping". I thought at first that she was choking but she wasn't. She is an otherwise normal chick. Perhaps not 100% strength like her sisters, but OK. Well, the hiccuping is now accompanied by a peep. Anyone have any ideas as to what this...
This is what my EE chipmunks look like. I got them from Murray McMurray. They lay light blue and light green eggs. I also got some much darker chipmunks. Their heads are black with gold flecks instead of the gold heads with black flecks. They lay olive green eggs.
Sorry Candle98! The poop does indeed look like melted chocolate. It has been 24/7 every day. They are getting it on their feet and on their rears no matter how often I clean up their pen (big box with newspaper covered with paper towels.) I gave them some ground oatmeal and it seemed to help...
Sorry for the gross post but I am a little concerned over my 7 day old chicks who have the runniest diarrhea. I don't remember this with our last brood in '08. We feed them chick starter, a little scratch and have the vitamin powder that McMurray sent to put in their water. We have lost 4 chicks...
