Of course they can eat chicken. Farmers and people who raises chickens know this. And it's good for them. It is quite common in the Animal Kingdom.

Can a dog and chickens safely coexist in a small backyard?

So our Yellow Lab/ Australian Shepherd was introduced to baby chicks at age 7 for the first time. We did it very slowly, letting him sniff them, then lick, eventually letting them hop on his back. He showed great interest at first. When we introduced them to outside enclosure, he'd run...

    Eggs all over the place!

My birds are about 5 months old and one of them has started laying. The problem is they have my whole back yard to free-range and I find the eggs all over the place on the ground. This morning for the first time one of them was inside the coop. But not in the nesting boxes. When can I expect...

    Insulation?

I am in Minnesota. The top of my coop is open on two sides. Plenty of ventilation.

    Insulation?

I know there's a similar thread about outside material for coop but I have a slightly different question. I scavenged wood for my coop and found some thin outdoor siding in my alley for outside of coop. It's some kind of composite. Do I need to insulate? I was thinking of putting blanket...

What a great setup! You and your birds are very fortunate indeed! Even in Minnesota we've had dangerous heat waves and my coop is tiny, built to withstand the cold. But I researched well and put plenty of ventilation in and also run a small fan to circulate the air when it's hot.

    Chickens and Depression

Hi all. I am 66 yrs. old and have had major depression all my life. This last spring I made a last ditch effort to do something. I'd always wished I had grown up on a farm. Instead I had 13 siblings! Anyway, I decided to get some baby chicks. I worked with a neighbor/handyman to fashion a coop...

    Fireworks in the city

I'm wondering if other folks are having trouble with fireworks. I want to put my almost 5 week old chicks out in the coop but right around 10 every night somebody starts shooting off fireworks that are so loud they sound like gunshots. I'm afraid it's going to severely stress out the birds and...

    Fireworks and young chicks

As many of you probably know the fireworks are bad this year in the neighborhood. Couldn't be worse timing for me. I was going to put my chicks out next week. They are going on 5 weeks and are ready. The only problem is that right around 10 people start shooting off illegal fireworks in...
