Wow. That's good to hear. So, I have good hopes that this little critter can figure out that the Rhode Island Reds and Wyandotts and Easter Eggers aren't to be messed with, and that the little one should just try to get along? ; -)
It's difficult to do, but it's short and then done. You're only telling the truth. Some folks don't like the truth these days, but if you have love and empathy for your critters, this is one of the most effective ways to help them. I do prefer having a guy to do it. That is true.
Great advice, CoopBoots, and I thank you for taking the time and thoughtfulness to reply ... your insights on your munchkins is really funny! So, I think what I'm hearing is "supervised exposure" is the key. I just don't have the heart to turn away another abused animal when the shelters are...
I would tend to agree ... and I would recommend the Epsom salt soak, then a good towel dry once or twice a day for five days and see if there is a difference. I'm thinking there will be.
Now, there is root cause to deal with. The girls bedding should be cleaned of fresh feces every day...
YOU, "ChickenMama", are too frigging funny!
The absolute rarity of abandoned kittens and doggies in this world is just amazing!
I know I'm a fool for wanting to take this one in. I don't know why it touched me. I'm sure I'll be be-atching about it soon! ; -)))
I think this is the most important, straight-talking, blatantly honest instruction I've ever seen. More people need to speak so clearly, and listen more honestly. Great advice on all counts. My biggest breach of adherence is remembering to change my shoes at the mud room door, even though...
I just found a baby kitten in my chicken coop ... I have no idea how it found it's way there, but I now know why my Blue Heeler (ACD) went wild and barking, not like Hank, when I let him into the chicken paddock tonight for "put up time". I couldn't figure out why the girls didn't want to go...
Thank you ... that was very well reasoned and appreciated advice. I just found an abandoned little kitten and was thinking about keeping it as a mostly outdoor cat around the barn to at least scare off unwanted critters, and of course provide good care with good food and...
Thanks very much for your reply and your kindness and comfort, Callender Girl. It has been a long stretch of this heat and we have at least five more days before any rain or cooling patterns expected, so I wanted to ask for the sake of my remaining seven in case there were any additional...
Thanks so much for your kind reply .... especially meaningful with you being in FLA and therefore being very experienced with the heat and humidity we have here in southeast Texas. I failed to mention that all of their poo was normal which I keep a close eye on being the one who cleans the two...
The temp was over 100 today, but no more than it's been for the past ten days, and they had multiple waterers, lots of shade, a baby pool (which they refuse to use, so really is useless, but I was trying).
This hen, "Tawney", a 3 y/o "Easter Egger", and one of my most friendly and beautiful...
Thanks ..... and you're right about them being unlevel. I did put the one in my extra coop that doesn't have an auto system yet up on a leveled brick base yesterday and that helped a lot. I still need to make sure I have multiple sources that will last longer before refilling in case I get...
I think that may be just the ticket for inside my extra coop that doesn't have an auto-water system yet ... it won't take as much room as a 5 gal bucket and it looks like it won't leak and won't as easily collect shavings as those cheapo plastic ones, especially if I put it on some tiles...
