    The chick doesn't really do anything, and yes it is only when it's been burrowing. I'll have to look into what "bathing" is for chicks, that's a new one for me! It does seem that they only pick when there is bedding on top of the chick.

    etsy chicken coop?

    Thanks so much for the feedback! This is all very helpful. We're in the Piedmont region in NC. It looks like the same Etsy shop has a larger version of that coop (but 34 sq ft coop, 100 sq foot run), so I may try to do that one instead.
