Do bantams hatch more deformed chicks than standard breeds. I'm hatching banties for the first time and getting problem chicks about one out of six. These are all breed pure and not sibling parents as far as I know. Just wondering if bantams have more problems?
Oops you probably meant hardware cloth around the perimeter. Good idea. I was thinking you meant landscape cloth on the ground. Sorry, I'll shut up and go drink some coffee.
The hardware cloth will be a mess when you go to dig it out for a cleaning. How about digging a trench and leveling some bricks for a "foundation" for your run to sit on.
I put down a layer of paper towels when I hatch quail. Their feet are so small it keeps from mishaps. But with others i like to be able to monitor the humidity trays. My bators are styrofoam and they all clean with sponges. Good luck
Absolutely big enough! They only go in there to sleep and use the nest box. As long as they have a run or outside they will be fine. You can easily get two roosting bars in a 4 x 4 coop. Put the nesting boxes on the outside to save floor space. Good luck
Did you get them on Ebay? You can try to remove the soil with a stiff brush. Some use a sanding card but you have to be really careful. You might ask the seller what they recommend, then let them know that this is not acceptable. I would probably give them a brush and set them any way. Good...
The barred rocks will be a little bigger than the RIR's both will make a nice meat carcass. Be prepared it is NOT going to look like a cornish x rock (the kind you find in the grocery store). I would keep them on a higher protein feed and finish with corn. They the roos will take 16 weeks. They...
Bigstack, thanks that gave me a thought. The only ones I've tried to help were ones that were stuck to the egg, usually a late hatch. I think I will try to mist this egg/ chick if it happens again. Its so easy to tear the umbillical cord, will just give it a mist and leave it alone.
I always put a sponge or two in at this point. Make sure rinse them well if they might come with soap in them. I use a turkey baster to keep the sponges as wet as I can. With baster you can just open one of the windows or lift the corner of your incubater. Good luck,...
? Is it really Okay too...
You will be suprised at at how little there will be. Put some water in the bucket before you start, this will help to keep it from coagulating in the bucket. Pick a favorite tree or bush and give it a dose. For 12 chickens you MIGHT end up with a pint to a quart of blood.
