    Bird I.D.

My first thought was a fayoumi mix, but I agree there is probably a game breed in there. If this is a bantam I had a bb game bantam with a similar brown pattern like near her tail. EDIT* I meant old English game bantam, not a bb. I get them confused.

    Chick Feed

How many chicks? One bag (fifty pounds) could last me several weeks for around twenty chicks.

Looks like a mixed breed. A very pretty one.

Ermine... Best way to catch? Or kill!!!

I agree with the person who suggested a tomcat rat trap. I would try that first. IF you use poison as the worse case scenario, use a kind WITHOUT bromethalin. Bromethalin is a neurological poison and can't be cured by vet if your dog accidentally got ahold of it. The tiniest amount will kill...

    Help!!

I misread your post about the hen ratio, I thought you said five hens each. Five hens for two hormonal roosters is a death sentence. Check your silkies for extra roosters too! One rooster for eight to ten hens, no less. I'd say both roosters should go, start over. I love roosters, but yours may...

    Help!!

How old was this hen? Is it possible she died of old age/illness and the flock cannibalized her? I've seen a hormonal rooster maul a hen, but never with intent to kill. I have seen my hens abusing and devouring a pullet that died of other causes in a manner you described. It could be possible...

Ermine... Best way to catch? Or kill!!!

Have any other pets? Your worst case scenario could be just to set out poisoned bait. Dont do it if you have other pets, not worth the risk. Have any raw chicken? It appears the darned thing has quite the taste for it. Sorry about your chickens.

    Help!!

Can you give more information on the birds you own? (Age, breed, raised together or introduced recently?) How many roosters and how old are they? What did the body of the hen look like? Were feathers strewn everywhere, was she bloody? Was her back bald?

    Damaged foot

Sorry, I had forgotten to update this thread. I had to put him down, the frostbite began climbing up his feet and starting killing both his legs. I can't care for that kind of injury and decided it was best to put him out of his misery. I've since got a different ladder in the coop, everyone...

    Rooster who doesn't/won't crow?

I cant control what you do, but I dont think it's worth the risk. I love roosters more than hens and am very fortunate to be able to own them. Are you okay risking getting in trouble with the law? I feel theres a 70% chance he will begin to crow once he realizes he's the only Male on your property.

    Rooster who doesn't/won't crow?

I have a two year old rooster and a one year old rooster, both in completely different pens, who have never crowed. They're the sweetest chickens I own. The one is an omega in the pecking order, but the other is housed alone with a single hen and has never tried to mount her. I'm thinking he may...

    Damaged foot

Nothing but bad news. I may have to put him down. A day after I posted his the electricity went out so there was no heat in the coop. There was damage to his other foot which appeared fine externally. I had the one wrapped and he was beginning to walk normal, but it was -15° and both feet have...

    Damaged foot

Got him in the bantam coop, he is adjusting quite well. He likes looking at the hens, he hasn't seen one since February  It's a see-no-touch setup, that way he doesn't get lonely.

My phone is dying. Will update after bit thanks!

    Damaged foot

I'll get it out of there. The wood ladder only holds three chickens so I put in a metal one and laid it sideways instead of setting it up so it could hold the others. I will remove him right away. It is below freezing at night. Would an isolated coop be warm enough? I do have one with some...
