This is of interest to me. I recently had a bird die and I'm pretty upset with myself. I did the best I could but regret using youtube like I did to diagnose and treat. I don't know that I aspirated her (she had sour crop) but I feel guilty I might have as she died a day later after draining her...
I just had my chicken Skylar die. Pretty broken up about it. I can't be sure exactly what of, but she did have vent gleet and the yeast infection was advanced by the time I figure it out. She would "cry" when trying to poop. I was on day five of treating her cloaca when she passed. She stopped...
I pulled her food last night, as I wanted her crop to empty. She's got access to water with probiotics but shes not drinking. Was barely able to stand this morning. Now seated in the same place for the last several hours. Crop feels squishy/full, not as bad as last night. I'll check my local...
UPDATE: She's not looking good at all. Sitting in her tote, barely breathig. Been in the same spot all day. Massaged her crop a bit. Not sure what else to do for her at this point. Feels like I'm going to loose her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: She has sour crop. Treating with Miconazol 7 orally 2 X daily. Her crop was huge tonight and although I was reluctant I did turn her upside down to void all the liquid in her crop. I've taken food and water away for 12 hours. Going to start with boiled egg/plain greek yogurt tommorow.
I have a two year old Speckled Sussex that is drooling/vomiting. I noticed it a few days ago. She is recovering from an attack by the flock. She has had a severe case of vent gleet. I finally diagnosed that a few days ago and we are on day two of treating that. After her epsom salt bath tonight...
UPDATE: Coming up on 1 1/2 months since the attack. Still crying when she would try and poop. Cloaca looked and smelled awful. I think I finally figured it out. It's vent gleet. Started treating with Miconazol 7 (Monostat 7). Shes been given her first dose, I'll treat until the yeast infection...
Thanks Eggcessive, I'm doing all of that except for the coconut oil. I was doing coconut oil but stoped. I'll restart that. Continuing to treat with vetracyn and neosporin. We'll just keep treating her and hope she gets better.
The weather has been nice so I put her outside on the other side...
Here is my coop. I built it almost three years ago. Modified a design I found online by Ana White. I omited the hole in the floor, the clean out tray (as I'm doing the deep litter methid with hemp) and instead of the planter I made the entire coop 61 1/2 inches long. You will see what I mean...
Here is a link to the Ana White coop. I think it is easy to see where I departed from her design. I did a few other things differently but this gives folks a good start. I have all the reciepts for the coop build. I never totalled it up, I did not want to get depressed...
