My barred rock honks like a goose.

We have 2 B.R. eleven week olds, and one has been crazy honking for a week or so now, very loudly. Also always when greeting us or excited - it is just too funny, and we are interested to see if this is her big girl voice or if it too will change to a cluck. She really does sound just like a goose!

I would NOT want to faint in a chicken coop!

Yes, definitely the buttons on the back of the pants pockets ......... they get me everytime! If I sit awhile with the girls, there is also a lot of tugging at the shirttail in back, too. Funny and cute at 8 weeks, but not sure about the full grown pecks:

    What is your bedtime routine?

Our 6 x 8 week olds have been in the coop for about 10 days now.......they put themselves in about 9:20, I stick my head in the service door and say good night, and after locking up - I admit - I sneek around and peek in the far window and watch them for a few minutes - they are too funny as...

When will they get it!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE

Our 7 week olds took about 4 days to learn, and now tuck in about 9:20 or so .......... the coop is in a wooded/shaded area and it is darker there earlier, but 9:20 seems to be it. If I go to shut the door at 9ish, I am a little too early ........ We do turn the inside coop light (15 watt red)...

LOL ...... Why didn't any of you warn me?!!!!

I thought BYC had taught me everything I needed to know to raise 6 baby chicks ......... had to learn the hard way that it is never a good idea to visit 6 excited 6 week old chicks in their new run while wearing sandals (bad idea anyway) with painted (i.e. shiny) toenails. Yikes, they made me...

    Michigan

Hi Michiganders, I am a new member here in Western Michigan, wishing the rain and cold would let up so we can get the 4 week olds outside a bit more! They love pecking around the garden, but are just exhausted after a couple hours out - too cute! Thinking we can move out to the new coop and run...

    Good treats for baby chicks?

Greetings all you Backyard Peeps - My First Post! BYC and this Forum are such a wonderful resource for us Newbies, thanks for all the helpful advice! My 4 week olds haven't cared much for treats beyond their starter mixed as a mash, but oh, last night the spaghetti caused quite the excitement...
