Thank ypu for the update- I often wonder what happened in the end. I have a broody hen sitting on fertilized eggs well one exploded and contaminated the rest. So I have 1 week old chicks and I plan to try your method- I have the broody in with chicks but seperated

Oh boy- I did have some egg dried on them. I took a better flashlight
One egg clearly shows an eye and chick body- one egg was slightly cooler - she might of discarded it
So now I am tempted to stop her from being broody- 🤷♀️

Hi, I am on day 9. 2 days ago I found a very wet nest. A broken egg in with the broody and on all five eggs. I WIPED THEM WITH A DRY CLOTH. Removed the broody to a clean private nest with the dried eggs.
II did wash her up with water as she was coated in yolk.

I do tend to fuss more over some, but some days I am like farmer Joe- let them be. I do get sad when we cull but have done so out of need and a few roosters that needed to go.
So I watch my chickens, feed them daily, clean their dishes, treat their health like bumble foot or whatever health. Wrap an ankle put on aprons for their back.
And worry!

I have one lamp still on - its a ceramic bulb so no light
Tomorrow I will replace the red light to a ceramic bulb. They have 2 heat lamps.
It was pretty cozy in there. I closed the coop door and left one lamp on
