No, the broodie and chicks were with the flock the entire time. They still are. Just not sure why the rooster has singled her out. She is roosting on the top rung tonight like normal. I'll watch their behavior tomorrow morning when I let them out.
The coop is 15'x30' and they have 6 acres to roam daily. They roost just fine. The broodie just stays away from the flock during the day. I was just wondering if anyone had a broodie that had difficulty re integrating into the flock. Never happened to me before.
There is always some pecking order to be figured out when a broodie returns to the flock. This is a first for me. She hatched and mothered chicks last year. No problem.
I have 2 other hens that go broodie and have hatched chicks in the past. No problem. I guess you never know whats going on in...
Hi everyone. One of our hens went broody 4 months ago. We put eggs under her and she hatched 5 chicks. Her second time being a momma. They are just over 3 months old.
The issue is the rooster is "targeting" the momma hen. As soon as I open the coop in the morning he runs and mounts her...
We have a few friends we give eggs to. In return they give us cartons. Some get cartons from thrift markets. Put the word out for friends to save cartons and you will be surprised how many people will give you. We average 15 eggs a day and never bought a carton.
Good Luck
I don't wear a mask. My coop is 15 x 30 and dust is in the air constantly to some degree. It doesn't hurt the chickens and pollen bothers me worse than the dust.
Little over 2 weeks. Maybe I have different expectations than her. It looks to me like momma is over protective. She is not high on the pecking order. When other hens or me get near her and the little ones she backs up into the corner. No one is pecking her or the chicks. Our coop is 15x30...
The chicks look fine. It's been in the low to high 70's. The coop is not dark and is a dirt floor covered in hay. Just seems like longer than normal. They seem normal other wise.
First time momma hen. She was a broody hen and I gave her 4 new chicks she did NOT hatch. They quickly imprinted with momma and visa versa. From my past experience the momma usually walks the chicks around the coop and run teaching the chicks how to scratch for food and find water within a...
