    When do SS lay?

By week 23 our two buffs had been laying eggs. Of all our birds they were #2 to start producing after the Leghorns. I think our BO's were laying by week 20 or 21. Should not be too much longer. I think our SS's just started laying this weeK. 24.

    When do SS lay?

I have two SS's and at least one of them is laying. We keep track of our chickens and they are now 25 weeks old. The week ending the 2nd of August we had 11 eggs, the next week 14, then 28, then 29 and this week we had 36! I am pretty sure only our Australorp is the only girl not laying yet. She...

    *Buff Orpington Thread!*

When my BO's were starting to mature I found a video out of Canada where it showed the difference between young BO pullets and Roo's. Pullets have, no pun intended, big rear ends, all filled in. Roo's on the other hand have something obviously missing in that department.

My girls love it when I give them rose petals and there is a Rose bush near the corner of their run so when I go to pluck off the feathers... er...I mean... rose petals, the Buffs are the first ones their. I thinks it because the are just greedy little critters who love rose petals..... but they...

    Leghorn Thread

Here's something funny. My two Leggies are 23 weeks young and I cannot tell you if THEY have flopped over combs yet or not myself. But man! They are egg layin' mochenes! Boom shockalocka Boom! My Buff Orpies are not so bad either. I am pretty sure my girls' combs are not floppy yet but just...

Thanks. The music is from a website of royalty-free tunes. I thought it was perfect for the subject matter.

It's been my experience that chickens are not the dumb birds their reputation says they are.

    Leghorn Thread

I had read that leghorns in particular can start laying around 17 weeks so I was ready for them.

That was the first style I tried and it was worthless. One problem was we get high winds and they got blown over after a few days.
