I have seen a complete egg inside another egg. It was not from one of my hens, it came from the store. My chickens were only two weeks old at the time. The egg was a normal large brown shell egg and when I cracked it open inside was a fully developed ,but tiny egg, complete with shell.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the dogs. The others are right. The only way to secure your chickens is to confine them full time. I have the same trouble here in maine, but my problem is with foxes, and other preditors. I give my girls grass and dandilion leaves at least once a day. It's...
