New Here, and Building a Coop

Will do, I might also mention that all of this is within a large fenced area. I think we'll be good with the route we're going. I do also plan on a small electric fence around all of this within the fenced area

No, do not plan on it, I'm not sure why it needs to be any higher than it is. I've visited several local people that have coops/runs some of them don't even have anything other than the chain link fence. And have had no issues.

    Equipping the coop and run

Yes that is a feeder, and yes I would definitely hang it because we have field mice around here.

    Equipping the coop and run

I was looking at these two options.... I have several 7.5 gallon drums with air tight lids, just add a top vent for the water

    Equipping the coop and run

Getting ready to populate the coop, once Tractor Supply gets chicks in. Still a bit of reinforcing the run to do, but almost there. Do you feed and water the chickens in the coop in the run or both? Any feedback on the automatic cups you attach to a barrel for water? Food in the coop should be...

I requested plans, but never got a reply. I did screen shot each of the plans in the article, most measurements were readable, but not all. (see attached) I also created a 'cut guide' for the framing. (also attached) Hope this helps.

Well, best laid plans. Since an event today was rescheduled, and it was 50°, decided to work on the hardware cloth. Ran it around the base of the run, 18" out and up, secured to the ground with 6" sod staples and sewed it to the fencing with wire. Covered it all with soil and low-grow grass...

New Here, and Building a Coop

I think I am done for the Winter, she's a coming, first snow (little) yesterday. Some wide overview shots of the project. Next Spring I will attack the reinforcement of the run base, I did order twelve stakes, they will go in after the hardware cloth.

New Here, and Building a Coop

Roosting bars are installed. A layer of 1" insulating foam, a layer of tar paper, and the metal roofing all installed, with a small strip of trim on the front.

New Here, and Building a Coop

Yes that was my reason for probably thinking about doing both the same but I think after hearing people's comments the other one will be mounted on the outside like all the other doors. I am also contemplating some form of small gutters to collect rainwater similar to what I have done around...

New Here, and Building a Coop

I've gotten one of the triangular doors installed, unfortunately due to the placement of the chicken run itself, this one must open inward. I have a stop so it only opens to a certain point enough to allow ventilation but small enough so that a chicken doesn't think it's a place to roost. A...

Yeah maybe I'll rethink that , that was because the trim has already been placed but I'll remove it and renegotiate. Technically the weather usually comes in right at the front of the coop, that was my original thinking but, y'all are probably right. That's why I'm here.

New Here, and Building a Coop

I think I've got all the windows and doors secure, except for the two triangular ones. They're going to open to the inside, but first I need some Hardware fabric installed. Also installed a ramp into the run area.

Yes, sorry, ABOVE the nesting boxes, but does it matter the direction? I know they need to "fly down" from them so I am thinking across the short side of the coop gives more 'flight room' I have also seen one higher than the other for the pecking order.
