There was a really cold wind recently and maybe that also caused the problem. I live in the east mountains and there was a cold moist wind recently that made my chickens unhappy. No frostbite but I was worried about it.
I noticed that my layers seem a lot less interested in my FF since I started adding rabbit pellets to the mix (bought them thinking they were alfalfa pellets). They will eventually eat the FF but not nearly as happily has they had been before.
I had added the rabbit pellets once before and...
Found the post I was thinking about. It is Post #1761 on page 176. Here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds/1760
I thought I saw somewhere on this thread that the fermentation process brought on by baking yeast was different from the fermentation process that we want for the feed (lactic something). Don't understand all this but thought I'd mention it now for PeeopsCA in case you hadn't read that far into...
Have you notice that the size of the yokes are larger. Someone on another FF thread said they had noticed this and was wondering if you found this to be true?
Look at post #689 on this thread. There is some info on mites in the post that follow. Good luck. Luckily I have never had to deal with the problem but hope that the info given earlier will help
NS stands for NuStock. it is a sulfur mineral oil, pine oil or tar mix that many use on their birds. There has been a lot of talk about it on Beekiss's thread...
Do you think that putting ground up nuts into a FF would be OK. I just cleaned out my pantry and have several bags of old nuts that I would like to put to some use. They are pecans, walnuts, almonds, and filberts.
I also have several partial bags of beans that I would like to use somehow...
I might try it with hay. Lawn clippings are not an option since there are very few lawns where I live. I also like the smell of hay so that may work. I have been using the shavings since that is what so many recommend and have been warned off of hay because of mold etc., but then again my...
I have been trying to do DLM but I also don't see my litter decomposing at all. I live in a very dry climate and am wondering if the litter can be too dry for this method to work well. All I have is dried out poop and shavings. It is very dusting in the coop from the dried poop but I don't...
There's way too much to feed at once so I am trying to find a way that I can spread it over several weeks. It has been several years since I've cleared out the pantry so there is a lot. Don't know where all this stuff came from. I think the kids brought some home when they returned from...
I'm in the process of doing a much overdue cleanout of my panrty. I have a lot of open bags of various nuts, rice, dried fruit, grains and beans. I was thinkging of putting them in the food processor and grinding them up and feeding them to my chickens. I am mostly concerned about the beans...
