It's so nerve wracking waiting on them to lay their first eggs.... Mine started when they were around 24 -29 weeks..... My first ones squatted a good month before they laid & their combs turned bright red... Hang in there, they sound like they are close to laying :)
Can a chicken molt at 10 months? I have 6 girls & my Welsummer is the only one losing feathers.. This morning as I was cleaning the coop 2 big feathers which looked like tail feathers were in there.. She also hasn't laid in 2 weeks....combs are all red on mine... The rest are laying good
Thx I should've clarified.. Lol..., I'm going to wrap but not top bc it has a composite roof on top but roof doesn't cover the whole length of run. I'm only going to wrap back & sides and leave whole front & top open.

I was wondering if I could open the pop door bc it's not underneath them.. I'm trying not to hijack this thread, so I didn't ask this morning... Lol. . I noticed tonight when I got off work, the humidity was lower... But I closed them up ... Tomorrow night I'm going to leave the door open...

The initial start up for me was expensive! I had nothing but 8 chicks , sadly down to 6... My husband built the chicken tractor thankfully.... Now that I have everything the expensise isn't bad... Mine are pets first so the enjoyment outweighs the cost..:)
Chicken tractor was a little over a...
Thank you! Yes winter is arriving in TN today! I've got to get a bag a sand to put in & add some pine shaving..... I covered windows this morning.... I know I'll get use to a winter routine, just a little nervous being my first year...
. I have a quick ? This will be my first winter w chickens.... Temps are dropping tomorrow 40 high 20 low... This coop requires quite a bit of ventilation... However, the 2 big side windows are close to roosting pole towards back of the coop...... Should I put the windows in for winter &...
Messed up, meaning the whole thing is not brown.... The top is speckaldy but the bottom is solid...it's obviously not the typical choc brown.. . I'm just wondering if it's from my Wellie or my SS... I know SS eggs are usually pinkish.
