Thank you. I appreciate the advice. And will definitely go the cat food route because she is the one I've never been able to get hold of. She comes close but she is fast! I could get her at night, but she wouldn't be happy. I hope this helps her.
She has laid before and her eggs were always extra large. So I thought about that but she isn't walking differently. Runs around with the others. How would I check for that?
Thank you that is very helpful. It has not got below freezing yet, although it's been close. I live in central Texas. Probably 40-50 at night and 70's during the day. I just put a camera in the coop and saw her go in and take her place inside the nesting box.
I went to check on the chickens as they were heading into the coop yesterday evening. Chocolate was already in there and in the nesting box. I tried to get hold of her to check for mites, but she would have none of that. She exited and tried to make a place on the roost with the others and one...
I'm noticing some feathers around and today saw that she is missing feathers under her neck. Her poop appears normal. She walks normally and her belly isn't swollen. She went back into the nesting box last night and is not sleeping on the roost with the others. She is still not laying. Should I...
I thought about the possibility of wanting to get away from the others. However, she has always been the first one in the coop at night, signalling the others when to go in. And I haven't noticed her being bullied. But I will keep a closer watch to see if this is happening. She hasn't laid in...
I am familiar with the term but not sure exactly how it exhibits itself. She doesn't have an egg that she is trying to hatch, just not laying any and sleeping in the nesting box.
I have 5 chickens and this is their first winter. I live in central Texas and the days are shorter but not too cold yet. One of the chickens is not laying and I am concerned why. She acts normal, but last night I noticed that she was sleeping in the nesting box and not on the roost with the...
The chicks are about 10 weeks, decided they wanted to sleep in the nesting box. I had read that this was not a good idea, that you wanted them to roost at night. I closed off the nesting box and they weren't happy about it. One of them was settled on the roosting bars and I'm hoping the others...
I am new to chickens but have a fine mentor, my niece, Jenny, who introduced me to BackYard Chickens. I live in Burnet, Texas near Lake Buchanan. As far as I know, I am the only one in our little community to have chickens. We just got a Tractor Supply in the area which made it an easy start to...
