Thanks guys!! I appreciate your advice & insight. Sounds like "fresh eggs" are an acquired taste. Until then, I'll try mixing milk in & maybe holding some others for a while, see if there's a difference. What an adventure!
My 18 week old Golden Comets starting laying this weekend - Yippeeeee! :-D
We scrambled 5 of the eggs yesterday, & here's my issue. While the taste was okay, the yolks are tough! They seem to have a thick membrane around the yolk that I really had to kind of chop thru before scrambling. The...
We live near Zebulon, NC & will have chickens for the first time this winter. We intend to get set up with a heat lamp "just in case", but hope to never use it! :-)
Thanks, ya'll! These ideas are great. I'm going to try out the "chicken tree", for sure.
How do you hang the cabbage head?? I'm thinking inside an old net bag that onions come in, but I suspect they would tear it apart & eat the plastic...
I do have a plastic pail in the run, upside down. It's...
I've read a lot about putting different kinds of fruit, leaves, grass, etc. into the run so that the chickens have things to poke thru. Has anyone done anything with their pens to give them non-food related things to do? (I've run out of grass clippings & branches, & mine are VERY picky about...
As you can see by the other posts, you are not alone (not that it's any consolation).
My DH's ex-wife let his kids get so out of control that they are almost impossible to discipline now. They came to live with us for the summer once, after 3 weeks I thought I was having a nervous breakdown...
My ex-husband used to do that to me...once, giving me the silent treatment for TWO DAYS, all because he told me a stupid joke & I (oops) TOLD him it was stupid.
Well, as I said, he's now my EX-husband (and good riddance).
I agree with redhen...when I brought a new animal home one time (can't even remember which one it was now), my DH said "I told you I didn't want any more dogs/cats!!!" I just looked at him & said "Awwww...you're so cute, thinking you have any say-so in the matter!"
Now he knows better & only...
I'm so sorry. I'm wondering how my dogs are going to react to my chickens when I get them. I know my golden/aussie shepard likes to chase the sea birds at the coast, so I can just imagine.
I had white mice at one time, somehow 2 got out of their cage & of course my cats killed them both. I was...
I think I was a pioneer in a former life...I've always been a "plan for disaster" type...Katrina is what finally pushed me over the edge. I saw all those people sitting on their roofs or panicking at the convention center in N.O., & I said THAT WILL NEVER BE ME!!! So, I have been slowly...
I am a "new egg" here, too, & all you have to do is scan the Predators & Pests section & you will read all kinds of HORRIFIC things. I haven't even gotten my first chickens yet & I am scared to death!!! I have completely changed how I was going to make my coop after reading some of the posts...
