What’s the name of your coop?

I haven't gotten around to make any yet

What’s the name of your coop?

As long as you post a picture of the sign and tag me so I can see!

What’s the name of your coop?

I was originally gonna name it Fort Clux because of alllll the protective measures I took (way too many really, we don't even have that many predators here, but I sleep better this way:oops:), but I decided to name it after the coop itself. I made the whole thing myself and while I'm very proud...

Breeding for olive eggs, why cross dark brown roo over blue hen and not the other way around?

I've always been told that the best way to create an olive egger is to use a blue laying hen and cross her with a roo with dark brown egg genes. Why is that? Why does it work better than the other way around, with a dark brown laying hen and a blue gened roo? In the end the offspring still...

Is it possible to graft lilacs (syringa vulgaris) to butterfly bushes (buddleja)?

*I included the latin names in the title because english is not my first language and I wanted to be sure I was talking about the right plants* Lilacs and butterfly bushes are some of my favorite flowering bushes. I've always wanted some but never had space. Now I finally have some old bushes...

Lap chickens with dirty feet, solutions?

I think I just need to sew a couple of chicken shirts. This summer I just sort of accepted the dirt, but this winter I don't mind wearing an extra snuggly layer over my clothes ;)

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

Thank you very much, I'm quite proud of it. It's the first thing I ever built (apart from some shelves) and I did it all by myself. You can see the coop is vented at the top triangle above the doors in the front, it's also vented at the top of the left wall. This is the view of the left wall...

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

My partner is a terribly light sleeper, yes 😅 I think it's also important to point out that this post wasn't originally made to complain about Crumble's crowing. I wasn't necessarily upset about him crowing, I was just genuinely curious if there was a reason for him crowing a lot one morning...

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

I understand the concern, but I made very sure that there would be enough ventilation. The box itself is an old wooden crate. I made a door for it and added a removable perch. There is already plenty of ventilation because the slats of the crate don't completely meet (I'm sorry if this doesn't...

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

He has, if I don't keep him in his darkened box at night he will go off at first light and he wakes up both me and my partner as well as at least one pair of neighbours. Why do you think he is frustrated?* He only spends the night away from the girls, He goes to roost with them in the evening...

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

Because I don't want to wake up at the crack of dawn? And neither do my neighbours?

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

I'm keeping him in a box at night because that way I can keep it dark and make him believe it's night a little longer. I pick him up off the roost with the girls after dark to put him in his box. For all he knows he goes to bed each night with the girls and wakes up in his box when I open it the...

Rooster varies wildly in how many times in a row he crows in the morning, why?

In the morning, when the hens are already up and about, I come and get my rooster Crumble (british araucana, approx. 16wks) from his rooster box. We have a short little cuddle on my lap and then he gets to join his girls. He usually waits till he's back on the ground to start his crowing, though...

    Barley isn't sprouting?

Doesn't that make them dry out? The seller got back to me btw and told me that they are untreated and unpearled. They've never (to their best knowledge) sold them as sprouting grains though, they usually just sell them as direct feed. So they have no information on sprouting them.
