Yup the Hen is mine across of a Welsumer and a Brahma, going to keep the babies. I think half are Roosters. They will have to go away.
She is a good Mother, very protective. The chicks are wary of humans but pretty sure that will change when they get older
Mother Hen (a cross) and 15 of her 16 chicks. She had a nest hidden in the bush and one day she walked out with 16 bumblebee sized chicks in tow. She was sitting on 18 eggs.
I knew she was laying eggs in that area but I couldn't find her.
From the looks of the chicks the Father must be the SG...
My Mistral Gris go to the butcher in a week. That will be 13 weeks for the first batch, all Roosters. The Hens will go after in a couple of weeks.
I can't be more happy with them. They spend all of their time outside in the sunshine eating grass and the fruit/veggies I give them. They eat...
I have Silver Lakenvelders from a hatchery and a private breeder. The ones from a private breeder are a bit bigger, deeper in the body.
If the average person saw them side by side they couldn't tell the difference but a experienced chicken person could.
I am curious on the color of the golden...
Mine are all off the ground, 2 1/2 feet or so so they can go under the buildings if it rains or snows, also good for shade and shelter against flying predators.
Wood floors, proper concrete footings, no snakes and the dogs can get under it to chase away any rats that might be hanging around.
Got a lot of veggie and fruit discards at the local fruit and veggie store today. Chickens are pretty lucky.
Green grapes, cherries, raspberries, chard, lettuce, spinach, corn on the cob, oranges, watermelon and stale dated artisan breads.
Posting for a friend who doesn't have a computer.
Some of her young birds at approx 8-10 weeks are vigorous and healthy one day, the next day the odd one is hunched up and doesn't eat, within 48 hours it is dead. Light as a feather when you pick them up.
None of her adult birds have died this...
I think they are now concentraing on Arabos.
They are super nice people too. I stayed at their bed and breakfast when their Ranch was in another town. A huge log mansion with sweeping views of the fields full of Friesians, spectacular!
He is a German Friesian. www.thefrisianranch.com
He did his first test with the breeder, he got 8's 9's and 10's out of 10, the new owner didn't want to continue, why I don't know, maybe financial?
Both Laes and the Dam are now deceased, anybody whoever met Laes fell in love with him, very sad...
I was told that Figure was a Canadian Horse. Then known as a Frenchie or some other stupid name LOL She was originally from Quebec. Often marketed as roadsters and their tails were docked.
Not much difference between the Canadian and Morgan other than the border. IMO but often a heated topic...
The MG pen, They look so small in a big area. The coop is in a smaller pen and the umbrella is in the big pen. All surrounded by three strands of un-shielded electric wire. I lock them up every night but they do create a lot of heat so I will have to add more venting or leave the coop door open...
