Need advice about rooster behavior with auto door

I hope so too. Tried opening an old larger door in the coop to see if he’d use it to go out into the run. Nope, just won’t go outside period! Made my sitter aware of the situation and she said she would try to help as best she can. It’s just strange that he is acting this way. I will keep on it...

Need advice about rooster behavior with auto door

He went in and out for a couple of days and then stopped, so I know he fits through the door. The door is slightly smaller than the old one though, so he may just not like it. I put in the door so my pet sitter wouldn’t have to deal with locking them up at night. Fortunately there is water and...

Help needed. New chickens not going into new coop at night. Airlifting 36 chickens is exhausting!

Sounds like it’s going to take time and effort on your part to convince them that the coop is the place to be! Good luck😄

Need advice about rooster behavior with auto door

So, it’s been a week since I installed the auto chicken door. The hens have no problem going in or out now, however the rooster just won’t do it. He stands inside at the door and gets anxious while watching them. No amount of coaxing will get him to venture out. He is getting territorial about...

Getting in the Coop at Night

Looking at your roost, have you thought of varying the circumference of the perch? It is best for their feet if they have different sizes available. It might help to temporarily put a lower perch in to get them used to doing it. I did that with my last batch of chicks and I think it helped them...

Sounds like you might be stuck with the air lift at least until the lean to is built

If you have other spots for them to go to to get away from your roosters, what about blocking the underside access with some chicken wire so that they have to go inside to roost?

    Automatic chicken door training period

Today I sat outside the auto door and bribed them with some scratch and mealworms. After about 30 minutes of playing peekaboo I managed to lure them out. About noon or so they went back in, but were out again by 4. It is now 7 and they are still out. If they go into the roost tonight on their...

    Automatic chicken door training period

Not sure how to disconnect the door, I will ask my husband if he will take a look at it and see if we can try that.

    Automatic chicken door training period

Unfortunately the rooster prevents me from doing that. He gets riled up if he feels like his hens are in danger. He is a little over a year old and has challenged my husband and I a few times. I am having a house sitter come over in a couple of weeks, so I really hope this door works out. I...

    Automatic chicken door training period

Apparently my chickens aren’t as curious as yours! They will only do what the rooster deems to be ok. There is a manual button, but it only will stay closed or open for 3 minutes that way. I’m hoping that they will get tired of hanging out in the barn and the will to go outside will prevail. I...

    Automatic chicken door training period

Just installed the Happy Coop door yesterday. The problem is that the hens and especially the rooster are wary of the change in doors. Yesterday they came out but were too afraid to go back in. Today they just won’t come out. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how long does it take for...
