Hi all,
One of my girls has been spending a lot of time in the coop over the last couple of days. She seems healthy (comb is red, not puffing up etc) and when she is outside will peck around and forage before taking herself back to the coop. I've tried to check her under carriage to see if its...
Hi Everyone
We have some serious chicken drama going on.
In June we got 2 ex batts to go with our remaining 2 hens. We did the introductions very slowly. Starting by having them separated but able to see each other, then putting them together for a increasing amounts of time each day until...
I'm pretty sure the vet did everything right. He is experienced with hens and came highly recommended. It's a possibility that is what happened which makes it even worse to be honest. I really feel like I've let her down.
Hi all,
One of my feathered babies had been poorly since the weekend. She was alert and talking but lethargic and spending a lot of time in the coop. Yesterday she was refusing all food so I took her to a chicken vet this morning.
The vet said she had an infection from an internally laid egg...
Hi,
I really need some advice on how to keep my girls safe. A lost one of our girls at the weekend very quickly to egg peretinitis. I came home from work today to find a load of feathers, some bits and portions of beak in the garden. Thankfully it was a wild bird and not one of our 2 hens. I...
This sounds a lot like what happened to put Bluey. If you can, get her to a Vet ASAP as it could be an infection and with antibiotics she may have a fighting chance.
Hope things improve soon
Hello,
I'm sorry this post is not very uplifting but I'm hoping for some advice from others who have been in a similar situation.
We lost our big, noisy and beautiful Bluebell very suddenly yesturday to suspected egg peretinitus (according to the vet). She seemed absolutely fine yesturday...
Thank you for your kind words Stephine. Im sorry to hear about yout baby and your big hen, its obviously been a very difficult time. The vet didn't mention anything about the feathers around her vent. To be honest she was dying when we got her there so he didn't go into too many details about it...
Hi first can I say that I am so sorry for your loss. we lost our Bluebell yesturday to egg peretinitus. She went down hill so quickly, she was fine in the morning. In the afternoon she was lethargic and not herself so we brought her into the house so she could rest. She got worse, we took her to...
Hello,
I have a small wooden coop for my 3 hens they have a large run attached and can free range around the garden when we are at home.
Being very new to chicken keeping this will be our first winter with the girls and whilst we are having a mild autumn here in the UK I want to start...
I think my girls may be developing the same behaviour pattern!
I have three pullets, they have been with us just under a week (it will be a week this coming Sunday), I was fully expecting them to be reluctant about leaving the coop for the first couple of days, but now they seem to spending...
Thanks for your advice! Definately fitting some locks onto the coop today! I live in the UK and the main predator we have to worry about is foxes. My partner woke me up at 3 this morning saying he could hear something outside, my immediate reaction was to go out and check on the hens.. all was...
Hello,
I am very new to chicken keeping and am probably not doing myself any favours by repeatedly looking up how to prevent predator attacks... The worry of something getting to my girls is literally keeping me up at night!
The set up we have is a secure coop and run which the hens have...
Hello!
My partner took the plunge and after months of research and deliberation, got our first three hens this past weekend
I this site very helpful when looking into the care and housing requirements of chickens and as I am now a very new chucks mum thought it may be a good idea to...
