He's in a quiet place, seems to be okay as far as temp and is still drinking every time I offer him water (will not drink if it's not right up at his face). He also crowed this morning, which surprised me, and his eyes are shiny, not dull and glazing over.
On the other hand he's just sleeping...
My two ducks just beat my rooster up and he's not looking very good. He can stnad up and drink, but is unsteady on his feet. What I'm worried about, though, is that he's really having trouble breathing; his beak is open and his head bobs with every breath. Does this just mean he's worked up from...
Judging by our neighborhood, I don't think it's likely to be a peachick, but a wild turkey is possible.
What is a snood thing?
How does a game bird starter differ from a chick starter? I'm planning on making a feedstore stop tomorrow, so hopefully can find what it needs.
What other tips do...
Yes, there is a wound on the back of it's head, courtesy of my rooster. As for environment, I found it in my front yard. We do have woods near our house, and a few neighbors with poultry, but none close enough that I would expect to fin such a young chick or whatever it is in the yard.
I found some kind of reddish-brown bugs on two of my chickens this morning. They were pretty thick around the vent area. I didn't do a very thorough check , but didn't see them anywhere else. I dusted the whole flock with Sevin, but is there anything else I can do? I can't spend very much money...
Question; I've heard that oats are good for ducklings to slow down their growth and thereby extend their lives and make them better egg producers, but my ducks are kept with the chicks. Would oats be harmful to two-week-old chicks?
Did you say you gave her the chicks; she didn't hatch them? That would not be normal behavior toward chicks she had hatched, but would be perfectly normal toward 'intruders'. Oftentimes a hen will act like that for a while if you give her chicks from and incubator or another hen, but will end up...
Thanks folks.
I probably will just wait and see. I already have them and don't plan on getting rid of roosters anyway unless I absolutely have to.
I didn't realize Duramycin was antibiotic, the 'chick days' paper said to give it to them, so I wondered.
Thanks!
