I'm in Northeast Alabama (near Ft Payne) and would love to spend a day with other chicken lovers. Anyone else interested?
(I'm looking for Cochins, a Brahma rooster and Easter Eggers)
I haven't posted in forever...so many new faces! Looking forward to getting back in synch. We lost all of our serama flock to a raccoon and a neighbor's dog killed my pet cochins so we were chickenless for a while. Of course, that didn't last and after a big windfall this week, we are up to 30...
Whew, glad someone finally said 3 weeks. I was getting worried. Our chicks were starting to peck each other in the brooder so I moved them into an outside pen before they did some serious harm to each other. (Of course we immediately started having ferocious thunderstorms to add to my...
I'm in NE Alabama...halfway between Chattanooga and Birmingham. We have mostly seramas and cochins, but a few "project" silkies (working on silvers and shaded grays and SG partridge).
Great ideas! We've been getting colder and colder winters....so I guess it's time to go to the thrift store (as if I need a reason!) I love repurposing and recycling ideas! Thanks to everyone for sharing!
Very cool. I saw a calico cochin at a show a couple of weekends ago and fell in love. Now, I just need a couple of white hens. Square one again. (I stay here a lot).
Just let me know when you'll be planning a trip and I'll meet you anywhere along the way....or in Huntsville. Where are you from?
They're all adorable and they'll fit in just fine. I wonder if breeding the Cochin to a white Cochin would be a step towards the Calico color? I love dabbling with...
Right at the moment I don't have any silkies that could be shown, but I have several "projects" going on...mostly for Partridge, so I have odd grays and some fairly nice colored partridges that just need more "fluff." I'm going to find new homes for some of them....either pet or someone else who...
Hoping to find people near me to exchange eggs, chickens, etc to make "projects" easier. I'm in Northeast Alabama, near Lake Guntersville. Less than 3 hours from Atlanta, 2 hours from Chattanooga.
I know this is an older post, but I just noticed it. Alabama simply requires that you have a label on the eggs stating what size they are (to be determined by weighing a dozen eggs) and your name/address. No other requirements. That is state-wide, not county by county.
Just downloaded the newsletter from ExhibitionPoultry.net and it's wonderful! Thanks SO much for pointing me to it. Found LOTS of shows in my area about which I'd heard nothing. I'm so excited.
Bobbye
We had a wonderful time. Weren't exhibitors this year, but definitely will be next time (when IS the next one?) Is there a mailing list we could get on? I'm having a terrible time finding out about shows until afterwards.
We added to our little flock and were very pleased with the quality of...
Thank Heavens I'm not showing (NOT a morning person!)
9:00 I can do. (Even though it means getting up at 6:00 *gasp*). I'm a writer, and if I see sunrise, it means I've stayed at it too long and it's time to go to bed! I rarely make it to sleep before the wee hours.
See y'all there, good...
