Rough-legged hawk vs. Marsha = tied

I didn't see the hawk today, but I heard him when I went out to check on the three other girls - he was out there somewhere. We had several inches of snow fall this morning, so I decided it was best to leave the girls in the coop for the day. Any ideas as to getting this injury taken care of...

Rough-legged hawk vs. Marsha = tied

I came home this afternoon to our first experience with a predator attack. I don't think I've ever heard a chicken make that kind of noise, and I hope never to hear it again. I found the hawk straddling my Marsha, cornered to where he couldn't take off with her. I scared him away with a few...

Do You Heat Your Coop? (Poll) LATEST UPDATE PG 15

Yes, with a 75w halogen bulb that makes me very nervous. And the colder it gets, the less effective it is. Going to use that aquarium heater idea for the water - thanks!!

Supreme Parrot Mix okay for our girls?

Thank you for the reassurance! They do love it, I only give a 1/2 cup a day. They eat what they want from it and leave the rest for the squirrels. Right now they're enjoying watermelon. I had to try that, it sounded amusing.

Supreme Parrot Mix okay for our girls?

After looking through the great suggestions on treats, I went out to hunt for stuff. I found a bag of very yummy looking parrot mix, with hulled seeds, oat rings, grains, dried fruits. I did buy it and the chickens LOVE it - but I worry because I know they'll eat whatever I give them. Has...

    Idaho?

Boise, on the Bench! I love having our three girls - Marsha, Jan and Cindy - and they absolutely love having the run of the backyard during the day. Our pugs don't bother them at all anymore, finally got used to having them around. All our neighbors are well-aware of the chickens on the block...
