I was putting my rooster on a pole next to my silkie and he flapped his wings and my silke got knocked off.
She landed on her side and started bleeding a little at the mouth, still breathing heavy, but there is no more blood.
Her leg is now limp but we don't think it's broken by the knee...
We just did that, the silkie still wanted the other chicks for a bit but then sat down and tried to dig a hole to sit on the chicks, seems like it works!
We let 2 of our hens sit on 13 eggs, 10 hatched, and 1 very angry hen.
A few days after their eggs hatched, our silkie, decided that she wanted to be a single mom, and not co-mom with our wyandotte-silkie. (Ws)
So our silkie has nonstop fights with the ws, pulling her hair and jumping all over...
update: the chick got out of the egg successfully but I've read that if you assist the hatching process (then hen stepped on it) usually the chick dies in a few hours or a few days. Will it live?
Our 21 day old embryos are finally pipping through, I let the hen's down so they could go to the bathroom but when they got up they stepped on the egg! It cracked the egg even more but didn't break open, will the chick be okay?
3 Cockerels, two of which are 4 months old and the other 3 months old. Four pullets that are wyandotte/silkie mix. One full bred silkie pullet. 2 that are four months old and 3 that are 3 months old.
Our cockerel (4 months old) is bullying all of our pullets (4 months and 3 month) he jumps on top of them and starts pecking at their head, all the other cockerels peck the pullets at nighttime when they're about to roost. We're keeping the bully rooster that jumps on hens in a coop outside...
We just got 8 chicks a month and a half ago, 3 roosters and 5 hens (ones a silkie but I have no clue how to sex a silk and the rest wyandotte/silkie mixes). They're so young but the roosters are almost as big and tall as my adult rooster! So my question is, how big and tall do wyandotte/silkie...
