Crazy little rascals are gonna' make me crazy ;) Just read a short article that there's something we're doing that might very well have created this problem. We've actually spoiled them! While I prefer to keep the All Feed in a weighted container inside the coop, a certain husband likes to...
That's what we've been doing the last few years as well, but apparently it's like the lion of Africa who knows to avoid the color red. All of the sudden they'll crawl all over the cages, but won't go in.
Drowning? No. No way could I do that. And, having a large enough trash can to fill with water isn't an issue since we have a creek running through our ranch that must be 50' wide. Other than our bb-guns you won't find any weapons in our home either, but if I had to make a choice I'd rather shoot...
That's basically why we agreed to no more catch and release. We had to drive them to the other side of the Wabash, and that is by no means a short distance. Also, quite a few of them had injuries on their paws from the traps and it seemed cruel that an infection might set in. One farmer...
That's some pretty amazing footage of the sneaky coon in the garage. Well, I have a surprise for this one tonight. No trap, but a fine dining experience that guarantees he won't walk more than 20' before he drops. Appreciate the heads up that they get wise to traps. Who knows, maybe these are...
Yesterday we set up our new night camera. Since the traps and bait hadn't been touched the last couple of nights, I wasn't too optimistic we'd capture anything on film. I could not have been more wrong. First shot is a rabbit. Second shot a raccoon. Now the question is, why didn't the raccoon...
Great suggestions on how to tweak the traps. Didn't have anything as heavy as a cinderblock, but found something that might help. Think tomorrow I'll wrap what coated chicken wire we have left around them (love those zip ties!). Thank you!
Not that I'm happy you're a worry wart, but I do appreciate your sense of humor :) Whatever it was, it was back last night. Yep, roof was punched down...again. in about an hour we're going to go out and my left-brain husband has an idea on how to secure it. Our night camera should be here by...
Wishing you luck and then some, but please be careful. Of the 28 raccoon we captured and released (won't be taking that avenue again) they can be So Nasty...not to mention nearly fearless. Just lased the traps bait with a couple teaspoons of poison. I sincerely don't want to offend anyone...
Update: Just posted on another thread. I feel so badly for the flock owner. A weasel attack was sad enough, but whatever emaciated his/her bird is unimaginable. The last three nights (while the birds are inside the coop) something has been crawling on top of one of the enclosures. This...
I am so sorry for your loss. This is only our second flock, so I honestly don't know what could have caused such horrific damage. At least a weasel isn't quite as brutal. Since I'm new, I don't have a clue what your situation is, but as of this morning we purchased a night camera (should be...
