Yeah, I guess Pigeons are not like chickens, LOL. Thanks for all the tips - I have some reading to do. @CCUK -that image gives me a fantastic idea of what I need. I didn't see my birds today, and the 3rd one left this morning - I left the door open in case the other 2 came home. I think they...
Hi Everyone, hoping some of the fellow chicken keepers know a bit about pigeons. I bought a trio 3-4 weeks ago and I let them fly for the first time today. It wasn’t until about 2 hours before dark they noticed their exit way. 2 flew, but 1 stayed. They hung around close the whole time. They...
Love this article - I end my work day by taking a break in the back yard with the chickens. A creature of routine, if I don't get that time at the end of my day, it's just not the same. I have a flock of 80, most with names, some special needs. After a day of working in a corporate environment...
Hey everyone, My search online was not fruitful. I’ve had my beautiful Sizzle Rooster in amongst 3 pure Polish girls I bought last year (a golden, a white crested and an all white). I’ve popped a bunch of their eggs in the incubator and wondering what the odds are that I will end up with some...
Well, my little chick is still kickin'! I think whatever is dying has completed it's reach and stopped dying off, all drying up... Nothing looks infected, he's still eating like a champ, but doesn't like to walk much. He pecks at his own dead toes. lol...I keep him and his pal in a cat litter...
Thank you for the response! Yeah, looks like he may also be starting to lose the tip of the middle toes too. I will keep a close eye on it, and I'll wrap the hocks too. I also dipped in Betadine just in case as well. I really hope he pulls through. I keep his food and water very close to him...
Hi Everyone, hoping someone knows what's going on and what I should do with my sweet chick. They hatched 5 days ago. This particular chick hatched later than the others. When he hatched, the bottom of one of his feet was filled with clear fluid. When I noticed and touched it, it popped and the...
Oh, ok...No, her skin isn't red underneath the flakes...Which puzzled me. lol....I wonder if she had something that already went away and now I'm dealing with the aftermath. The worst crusty part is at her shoulder, right where her wing bends...it' stuck on....not moving...Alright, well, maybe...
Oh wow, Thanks you guys! I've been bathing her in clinical strength head and shoulders... she appears to be improving, and has more energy...I don't see any new 'yuck' on her skin, but that may be only because I've been soaking her regularly, and she's alone so is eating and drinking regularly...
Thanks for the replies - The issue that the chicken in the post azygous provided appears to be exactly the same thing. I'll keep reading/researching and certainly take to the Dr. soon if I have no luck.
Hi All, I've read a bunch of forums and understand this could be mites or a fungal problem, was hoping my pictures might provide something that I could get a definitive answer on so I can treat accordingly. This chicken has flaky skin all over her body. One of these photos with the very...
She doesn't appear to be suffering. Everything else about her is normal. If I keep her cleaned up, she seems totally fine, but you are right - I mentioned the eggs because I thought the problem could be stemming from farther up the track.
Hi Everyone,
One of my Silkies has a problem with her Vent - It's been going on for quite a long time, and nothing I do seems to resolve it. I've been treating for Vent Gleet, but the images I see online of chickens who have Vent gleet generally have wet, poopy feathers near their Vent and it's...
Thanks for the reply, LofMc. :) Glad to hear it shouldn't be an issue. As far as the chicks, they were hatched naturally - there's always someone in the flock going broody. I've been lucky and never had any issues with babies/older birds. The older birds just seem to ignore them. Thanks so much...
