I lost two hens this week. Second one today. She lost the use of her legs and when I picked her up she couldn't hold her head up and died that quick. She was eating and drinking although she seemed off a bit.Her comb was a little pale, i believe the first hen died the same way. They were 4...

    My first flock-- Barred Rocks

Finally got my little flock of chickens. 6 14 week old pullets. Get them home and put the carrier in the run. It took all of 30 seconds for them to come out. Grass! Green grass I could almost hear them say. LOL. Anyway the first night we had to put them in the coop for bed. The second...

    North Carolina

Question about transporting chickens in this heat. We are picking up 6 13 week old Rock barred pullets about 2 hours away. The plan is to use two pet taxis- 3 per. They will have to ride in the bed of the truck up against the cab. Or should we do 2 per box?

    Game Chickens

Thank you for the information. After alot of research, I think I am going to pass to the free chickens. I would like to get RIRs or maybe a docile hen/rooster pair from the nonprofit.

    Need advice please

It is a little pygmy goat in the furthest corner of his lot. I did give him food for thought the other day. A single, crying lonely goat could very well draw predators such as coyotes And with chickens and grandchildren we don't need that., Not to mention the stray dogs running around. A...

    Rooster brooding eggs??

Cool. What I know about chickens came from observing these free range barnyard chickens. Most of the time the hens has the nest hidden and we find her with peeps. I have seen a rooster guarding the chicks after they have been 'weaned'.

    Rooster brooding eggs??

At the farm I volunteer at once a week Last week a hen was sitting on a nest with 'her' rooster standing guard. Yesterday the nest had been disturbed, several broken eggs, intact eggs scattered. One on the eggs was on the concrete apron by the water trough. The rooster came over and sat on...

    Game Chickens

We were looking for layers and also for bug control. Another concern is are these birds aggressive to people, dogs and cats. We will let them free range for part of the day We don't have younguns here, but I would prefer not to be attacked when collecting eggs. I really don't know what type of...

    Hello from North Carolina

In a few weeks I will be getting my first chicken flock. Finished the coop and will be putting up the fencing. I hope to allow them to free range in my garden. Not sure as to what type of breed I am getting, still doing research. I don't think I will start out with chicks, looking more for...

    Need advice please

Hello, I know this is my first post, but I am so upset. My neighbor recently acquired a little goat. Cute thing. However, it doesn't have a buddy of any sort, decent shelter or proper food. I have tried to talk to the neighbor, but his attitude it is just an animal. And I don't know...
