    Maybe gather more often. I've had the same problem too. You can also try oyster shells or pop some egg shells in the microwave for a minute or so to dry them out and give those to the chickens.

    What Would You Do?

    I'd go with the second guy. The first one sounds like he's more or less just stringing you and DH along and will come when he gets darn good and ready- not good work ethics. Plus the fact that he wont talk to you and the "don't threaten me" bs just sends a huge red flag up for me.
