We were given a new born kid about 2 months ago and last night we noticed that he was acting strange. We had to go get him and bring him to the food bowl which is very unusually for him. We had to do the same thing this morning, he will eat just fine when we do this. He has a little bit of foam...
Quick update, amazingly enough the chick piped last night night and was the 2nd chick hatched out of the bunch. I don't know what caused the bottom of the egg to split like that, but everything worked out. The chick looks great and is already moving around the brooder with chick #1.
Thanks for the response, I hope you are right but it's been like that for a few hours now and I haven't seen any movement from it. I also don't see any where that it started a pip, just the bottom is split.
Pretty new here and wasn't aware of the Hatch-A-Long threads, but we started 21 eggs on 02/05. Surprisingly enough we had our first chick hatch a few hours ago (36 hours early). This is our first ever chick.
Sorry the photo isn't great, didn't want to open the incubator just yet.
This may not fall under the emergency category, but I just wanted someone to respond to it quickly. We put eggs in the incubator on 02/05 @ 6:00 am. We had our first chick arrive a couple hours ago, about 36 hours early which has me worried. I think I see a couple other eggs starting to pip, but...
Thanks for the replies, no issues with other chickens getting droppings on her. She sleeps in the corner where a lot of the bedding is and out of poo danger from the roost.
I have 16 chickens in a 12' x 10' coop with 3 different roosts varying in height. She used to sleep on the lowest rung by herself, but the past few nights I've noticed her sleeping in the corner by herself. I've even went in and put her on a roost and he jumps down and goes back to the corner...
At this point I'm pretty certain its mycoplasma, all the symptoms match including one of the hens having small bubbles in the corner of her eye. I'm on Day 3 of Tylan 50 and all the Hens are back out in the yard running around, still have some runny noses and raspy breathing but it looks like...
Thanks, I went and picked up Tylan 50 yesterday and just gave her the 2nd dose (.5ml orally) this morning. I also got Oxytetracycline water soluable and put it in their water to help prevent any sickness in the rest of the flock. I noticed this morning that she could open her eye a little which...
I've had a few of my hens have this issue the past week or so, I've attached a link to a video so you can hear what she/they sound like. We bought 12 chicks last February and this is the first sickness we've seen. They will occasionally get off the roost and roam around the yard, but not for...
