i have two hens ....one ..or both layed a bunch of eggs on top of the feed bag...and they are taking turns sitting on them...2 questions..is this normal behvior?..and can i move the eggs to another spot without them abandoning the eggs?
ok geeze..i made another typo...lol..i DO keep the temp at 99...i have nothing to gauge humidity,,,after first failure i bought a turner...and used it...i havent tried again yet as i lost most of my hens to a predter....i have 10 chicks i bought and keepig pened up..and lost 2 to my grandsons...
i just am trying to start over again..after having lost all my hens except 2 banty and 1 ri red rooster....bought 10 asstred chicks from the feed store...and have then secured i a pen 2 by 4 ft....the poor old rooster roams at day now and roosts on my front porch..the 2 remaining banty have...
thanks again for all the helpful advice...the pen and shed where i kept the chickens will be fine in what i see...needs a little reinforcining here and there...the main cause of the losses are on me...i got to the point where i was letting them go in and not locking them up....i did have to get...
btw ...for those critical...i adopted these chickens.... a person gown the road got forclosed on and abandoned them there....along with 2 dogs...which i have also....ill secure the pen better at night...i had worked alot on it before....but obviously not enough...thanks again
thanks for the replys...it seems it may be my own fault...my pen or coop...is about 20 by 20 fenced in and lined with chicken wire it has a shed attached....with a door...that thye roost in and lay eggs etc....ive not been securing it lately at night as the chickens have roamed the property...
i am fairly new to owning chickens...had 25 last summer...now down to one big long island red rooster and a banty....the last 2 weeks ive lost 5 hens at nite in the pen...just dissappeared..found a few feathers...last night it got the last big red hen i had and the rooster ran up and roosted on...
