She is a docile two year female who is joining our flock. Beautiful dark chocolate brown (almost black) with a white chest. Any ideas what breed or crossbreed she is?
We had two Buff Orpington females but lost one a week ago due to a respiratory illness. She was the only duck affected, and our chickens were fine as well.
Our Buff (2 years old) is very unhappy as a singleton so we found a single female duck on NextDoor who need a home. She is also two years...
The necropsy showed *no* foreign body obstruction in her airway nor any sign of gapeworm in her trachea. I didn’t go any further into her chest cavity/lungs because I didn’t really know what was what to that extent, but assuming that it was a fungal infection that walled itself off before I was...
We are in the USA (California)… how about you?
I was sure the oxine was going to help as well. Sadly, she passed away last night in her duck house. I knew she was not doing well. I did find an avian vet about half an hour from our house but too late. I’m probably going to do an autopsy so I can...
Cookie was improving but once we started the 2-3x daily Oxine AH fogging, she stopped improving. Today is Day 7 of Oxine AH and she looks worse with a moderate tail bob, retractions and panting. I thought this would cure her but it's not doing the trick. She's also continuing with Baytril. I...
Cookie is definitely improving! She completed a five day course of Safe-Guard and just finished a week on Baytril. It took several days but her quack is back and she is no longer wheezing/panting. She still has a mild tail bob with mild chest retractions. The Oxine AH finally arrived yesterday...
This is the most amazing info ever - THANK YOU. I love it that I may be able to treat her with a nebulized treatment instead of an antifungal that may not even work. I already ordered the oxine and I’m borrowing a nebulizer machine from a friend.
Thx for the video. My duck is making more of a...
This is the most amazing info ever - THANK YOI. I love it that I may be able to treat her with a safe, non-Rx nebulized treatment instead of an Rx antifungal that may not even work. I already ordered the oxine AH and I’m borrowing a nebulizer machine from a friend.
She is not improving. Still laying eggs but we are on day 3 of Safeguard so thinking it’s not gapeworm. Day 2 of Baytril so will keep going on that one. BUT… I just realized that she may have a lung fungal infection because we did lay some chip bark in their yard within the last two weeks. There...
Ok, gave her Safeguard (today is daily dose 2 out of 5). I also started her on Baytril 10% suspension, 10mg/kg which for her 8lb body is about .36 mL. Does anyone know if this dose is once a day or twice a day?
No change in her symptoms but thankfully she is no worse and still eating/drinking.
Now her voice is completely gone. Breathing is the same. While I’m waiting for Baytril to arrive in the mail, I’ve been doing some research and wondering if it’s gapeworm? Looks like you can treat it with ivermectin and/or some other anti-parasitic. Does anybody have any experience with this...
