Ok, more information:
We ordered the entire brood from mypetchicken.com, and they are a mix of standard breeds. She is one of several who look very similar, and I honestly am not 100% sure which she is- but maybe an Australorp or Black Copper Maran. They are in a large plastic brooder on wood...
I have a week and a half old chick who can't poop properly. Since last night, I've had to "help" her poop every few hours. Her vent gets very protruded and swollen when she needs to poop and she peeps like it hurts. :(
I have been using toilet paper and a q-tip with vaseline to kind of get the...
It does look like she's kind of "plugged up". We put some PrepH around it and while we had the Qtips out tried to scoop a little of the poo out without pushing it further in. At this point it's clear that she's not able to poop at all and it's very swollen.
I can't go back 6 days and put them...
We got 10 new chicks from MPC this past Tuesday, so they are 5 or 6 days old at this point.
About an hour ago we noticed one of the chicks had some mess on her butt. We figured she was pasting up a bit (we've been checking/cleaning butts at least twice a day), but when we picked her up we...
One of my four black indian runner mutts- the one that happens to be the most people-friendly- seems to be having an issue lately. A few times in the last week when I've picked him/her up to put him/her to bed, I've noticed he/she is pretty wet. All four of the ducks have access to a kiddie pool...
Our ducks have pea gravel around the perimeter of their pond as well as in their run to keep the muddiness down. The gravel around their pond gets direct sunlight for much of the day. It never gets all that hot, mostly because the pea gravel is largely white, light pink and orangey tones that...
How big is this pond? Is it something you could fill in if it's just attracting mosquitoes and other nasties?
edit: Or maybe put a pump in so it's not so stagnant?
Does anyone here have goats in addition to their ducks?
I would really like to get a couple of Alpine wethers (fixed male dairy goats) to keep as pets and environmentally friendly lawn-mowers
Would they be able to range in the same pasture area as my ducks (and maybe chickens)? I haven't been...
Laurie,
You're only about two hours away from me and I've been thinking about getting a couple of fawn/white runner girls to add to my almost 6 week old quartet of black runners/cayugas (still not sure who is what or whether they're mutts).
Would you be willing to sell just two or do you only...
I'm so sorry your runners are sick
I don't have any specific advice, but I know that people who do will probably want to know what kind of diet they're on, whether they have access to outside/grassy areas, etc.
I hope someone here can help you. Good luck.
As far as "flush-free" niacin goes, it was my understanding that the flush-free part was referring to a side effect of niacin in people. "Flushing" as in getting red in the face (eg. "You look flushed, do you have a fever?").
Someone absolutely correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it has...
Wonderful!
Thanks everyone so much! You all must truly love ducks to be so patient with all us duck noobies who post panicked questions about normal occurrences.
Please don't read this if you have a weak stomach.
I have four ducklings around 4 1/2 weeks old.
Recently I've noticed a bit of diarrhea in their brooder.
Normally their droppings are a bit more formed and a lighter color, but lately at least one of them has been producing a chocolately...
