At the beginning, my old hens didn’t allow the young ones to touch their nest.will pecking them away, But since this young hen getting stronger and chirping often, the balance reached. Any one could stay in any nest now:)
Good to know this, I’m in Bay Area too, only one quail not molting and keep laying. The strange thing is, the young ones just changed adult feathers, but when I moved them outside they started molting again
Wow, quite a long time! My friends’ quails never stop laying, even have some feathers dropped off, might because he kept quails in garage and always use artificial light, the environment quite stable. And plenty of worm supplies.

Hi I really wonder what’s your quails situation afterwards, I know it’s long time ago. Because my quails all molting recently, some have been not laying for a month. Before they lay everyday even in winter.
You are so lucky, maybe my quails will live longer, :) they haven’t laid for a month, because of molting, I used yard light sometimes but not every day.
