    white hens - what breed?

I've never raised Rhode Island Whites, so cannot really speak with authority. ALBC apparently knows someone who does and state the ocassional single comb individuals do occure. Probably a throw back to cochin blood. Genes are funny that way. Not really worth arguing about.

    white hens - what breed?

The APA only recognizes the rose comb variety. However, single comb RIWs do exist, especially in hatchery quality birds. Have also observed them in Grandparent Stock used in producing red sex links. Sorry, your birds' genetics would only be a guess. Brian

    white hens - what breed?

Rhode Islands have a "brick shaped " body. Can't tell from the photo. Reds and whites both come in rose or single comb. Brian

    Sheetrock

Tried it years ago. The chickens ate it. Not sure if the treated core of the w/r board will hurt them or not. Brian

Received 35 Cornish x from Welp Hatchery in Oct. 2010, Dec. 2010, and Feb. 2011. Shipped to local P.O. No problem. BTW, Feb. shipment was 37 chicks. As of March 9, still feeding 37! Healthy chicks - Good supplier.

Purchase chicks to put under a broody hen???

If the chicks are already a couple of days old, they may have already imprinted on themselves. In this case they may not accept the hen. Brian

    HENS MAY BE TO OLD?

Check the space between the pelvic bones. If laying, LF should be about three finger width. Bantams - two fingers. Bones should be pliable if laying( to accomodate egg passage ). Also, a non-layer's comb will be pale and somewhat shrunken.
