    I would have to disagree. I feel it is a male. For the size which screens young and the size of comb and the copper coming in the shoulder I say a dark male.

    I have seen white tipping in black coppers and Birchens. Both from reputable breeders. The white went away.

    If the Marans grew up together and separate from the red, or difference in size then any breed would do that. If they all grew up together from hatch than its not typical.

    If you want good assessments of your birds you need to get a good close, side shot of any bird you want info on. Make sure they are taken at bird level. Also post larger photos. These small far off top shots will not do it. Eyes should be like a dark pumpkin orange.

    Also, on a side note. Please dont take this personal, but the way I read this, you were trying to use the gold, and mix match breeding. If you are not interested in really improving the breed why are you asking for help on other areas of the bird?

    So you said you are trying to increase the gold? Try to get a bit longer neck. His topline is not right. You want an angle going from the hackles down to the base of the tail.
