    I should say aspen wood shavings. Same stuff we use for the hamster cage.

    So our new chicks arrived yesterday and while they're eating their food they are also eating (or trying) to eat the bedding I put down in the brooder. Its aspen bedding. Will this hurt them??

    this is our first time raising chickens and read these breeds would be good with the kids plus good egg layers. I also read that giving chicks sugar water is good after being shipped. Why is this??

    Well, the chicks have been ordered!. Only starting with three, black australorp,barred rock and a silver laced wyndotte. They should be arriving around October 19th.
