I guess I should have said it like this:
I'd like to become more involved in the preservation and exhibition of heritage turkeys. After searching the internet for Michigan breeders, Michigan turkey/poultry shows; not much comes up - just hunting turkey shows....
But JimsFarmStand has...
I'm thinking of trying my hand at showing and I want to improve my flock. I'm wondering what I should look for in a hatchery.
I am inclined to find one within a day's travel time so I can go and pick them up instead of having them shipped. If that matters.
Any suggestions?

This was the most entertaining strand that I've read in awhile. At first, I thought it was some sort of mathematical riddle.... Thank you.
On the serious side though, I would agree with JimsFarmStand - I think you're setting yourself up for frustration by keeping either one.
A friend gave me some eggs to incubate this spring. He said the tom was a Black Spanish (look like one), and the hen was an Eastern - she had primitive markings and looked like a wild turkey but a bit smaller than the other hens. The poults came out in a collage of colors. a couple were a...
I have a blind turkey about 5 months old that I have to keep isolated because the other birds just attack him. I let him out to wander around when I'm home and I have to scratch at his feed when I put him away. I feel bad for this little guy and thought a nice calm chicken would perhaps...
I wish I could post a picture, but I have dial-up....
Anyway, since the nights have cooled off, the younger birds have taken to my tom and are competing to get under his wings or climb on his back, up on the perch at night. He seems to be comfortable with his new role. It is so cute I just had...
I feel for you...... I keep checking to see if anyone has replied with a suggestion; many have looked at your post.
Have you called the vet?
When you find out what's going on, will you please post it.
Sorry for your turmoil.
I guess I don't have too, they have plenty of room. It's just been about the age when I've put other birds together. I know it's too late for more eggs. I suppose I should just let them be.
She is a good momma bird and I've enjoyed watching her raise them. They are to the point where they...
I have a hen that attacks anything that comes near her pen & it's getting close to time to putting her and her poults in with the other birds. . . any suggestions? I'm thinking I should take the babies & leave her in the pen by herself for a couple of days, but I'm not sure. The poults are...
no, a red light. When I put my hand in they attack. I think they may be a little more curious and not as timid. I'm very happy to hear that they are not aggressive by nature.
Thanks
It would make sense that each variety would have slight character differences, but are Narragansett's known to be aggressive? I bought a few earlier this year and the chicks would attack my hand; they killed an bird a week older than them. I lost that batch so I bought 4 more. They're doing...
I didn't sell mine for enough - but I had one Spanish Tom and one Blue Tome dress out at 18 pounds each (they were beautiful birds), and my hens weighed about 10.
