    New to turkeys question

I am going to try raising some turkeys this spring. I have had chickens for years so not entirely new to the process. Last year my neighbors dog got out and killed 10 of my chickens and the rooster. My question is if I plan to free range my turkeys in limited amounts would an enclosed run...

    Molting question

I have 12 hens I have 3-4 who started molting in the middle of this past winter. They still do not have any feathers across their back. I am wondering if they were molting or are sick, or did they get frost bite ??? any help would be great. They do have a pink/ reddish skin with what appears to...

    Injured Rooster

I have a small flock 14 total. I have 2 roosters who get along well. Today I noticed the aggressive and dominant rooster had what looked like his tail feathers cut off. There was blood on him but no where else in the coop or the run. I didn't see any paw prints or animal tracks around the fence...

    dirty egg question

So the eggs are starting to become fairly plentiful but the dirt is abundant. I keep lots of pine shavings in the floor of the coop and in the nesting boxes. The eggs do have some poop on them not a lot but some, but some of them look like they are taking a mud bath. I know it goes both ways...

    Chicken run fence material

ok so when you say down bottom are we talking about burying it like 2 ft under ground or both 2 ft under and 2 ft from the ground up. How high up should I go and if I go with a welded wire would a 2 inch by 4 inch work or should I find a tighter 1inch by 2 inch.

    Chicken run fence material

I am getting ready to dig the posts for the run and start getting that assembled. Does chicken wire alone offer enough protection from predators. Do I need to spend the money on a welded wire enclosure or do I need a wire cloth type of cover for the run... I have recently relocated 13 fox in the...

Jumping into the meat chicken arena

Lollipop you aint kidding about the meat birds. I have 10 right now that are 5 1/2 weeks and they are dumb. I have a big pen for them with roosts they would rather lay in their poop next to the feeders. Was debating if I would do another round of them or not if they weren't ready to process...
