We have three, 7-week old serama chicks. Two are pullets and one cockerel. They are very sweet and cuddly but the two pullets refuse to walk on our tile or hard wood floors. They walk in the coop with fluff, our laps, couches, and rugs no problem. They sit down, cry, and scoot backwards. They...
A sad update for people. I provided the correct dose of calcium and continued to try to provide water with electrolytes. She seemed to be doing better this morning and pooped but degraded again by the afternoon. She ended up passing away in my arms this afternoon. I'm glad i was holding her...
I suppose that's why it seems odd it could be an egg bound issue since she laid yesterday late morning. I'm still going to do the extra dosed, liquid calcium (she has oyster shell but doesn't eat it). Just seems strange
Definitely worth a shot and had she not just laid an egg it would have been my first thought. When she does lay regularly it's at least a day apart. Is that your experience? Just in case that's why I have been and will continue to provide calcium.
I use: Morning Bird Calcium Plus Supplement for Avian Health, Liquid Calcium Formula with Magnesium and Vitamin D3, 4 Fl. Oz.
I haven't been very exact in dosage, just a squirt (probably a half tablespoon) into a small cup of water (the cup is probably three or four tablespoons). She's had...
My 1.5- year old serama hen is doing very poorly and I'm wondering if anyone had any idea what is going on. She is a fairly infrequent egg layer and usually they are soft shelled. She has oyster shell but doesn't like it so I've tried to provide liquid calcium intermittently. Yesterday she...
Thank you for the wonderful resources. The vet said it was an angular limb deformity and was fairly unspecific. He said the tendon had calcified and could not be moved back into place. I would've been willing to try and make a sling if it could be moved back into place. I have been putting...
One of our sweet chicks has ended up with a permanent out turned leg due to a deformity that likely caused the slipped tendon. Anyway, we decided to keep her and watch to ensure she is still happy doing chicken things, which she is thus far, just limps. Anyone kept their chickens with don't...
I wanted everyone to know yes it is a slipped tendon but it can't be fixed (I went to a vet and could not fix it and indicated the chick has a limb deformity on top). We are moving forward keeping the chick for now as she can walk around just like a gimp. I'll be curious people's experience long...
This is a good view of a partial flop that she does. Note this is the first time she's ever been on a slippery surface. I was testing to see if she could walk at all outside of the brooder with chips or my arm. She seemed overwhelmed and did not try. The leg does jut out like this fairly...
Hello. I got the cutest little serama chicks. One and a half weeks ago when they were about 2 weeks old, one of them developed a limp that I hoped was just a bruised leg from jumping and playing in the brooder. When I noticed and to this day the chick eats, drinks, cheeps, runs and plays with...
